Stage 1 — Pre-Start Induction, Permits & Site Segregation: All 4 operatives attend Principal Contractor site induction and sign the daily RAMS & WAH Rescue Briefing Register. Establish physical ground exclusion zones below the 8.5m eaves using clipped HERAS fencing and high-visibility "Danger: Overhead Roof Works in Progress" signage.
Stage 2 — Collective Edge Protection & Access Tower Handover: Prior to accessing roof level, inspect the 100m perimeter independent tube-and-fitting scaffold edge protection (double guardrails at 950mm/470mm, 150mm toe-boards, and brick-guards to BS EN 13374 Class A/B) and Haki stair tower. Confirm valid green ScaffTag and statutory 7-day inspection register entry.
Stage 3 — FASET Class A1 Collective Safety Netting Rigging: Certified FASET riggers install BS EN 1263-1 Class A1 safety nets (100mm mesh) directly beneath the structural purlins from 2 × IPAF MEWPs with maximum 2.0m drop distance and 10% sag allowance. Issue official FASET Handover Certificate prior to roof stripping.
Stage 4 — Progressive Strip of Existing Roof Covering: Working strictly from double-width Youngman aluminium roof stagings fitted with handrails, strip only the area of existing sheeting that can be fully weather-sheeted with new Kingspan QuadCore KS1000RW 120mm Composite Roof Panels (XL Forte Goosewing Grey) within the same shift.
Stage 5 — Mechanical Panel Hoisting & LOLER Vacuum Lifting: Check wind speeds at roof level using a calibrated handheld anemometer; cease panel lifting immediately if gusts exceed 17 mph (7.6 m/s per HSE HSG33). Hoist composite panels to roof level using the CPCS telehandler/crane and LOLER-certified dual-circuit vacuum clad-lifter fitted with secondary safety belly-straps.
Stage 6 — Fragile Surface & Skylight Protection (ACR[M]001): All 12 existing and new triple-skin GRP rooflights are treated as fragile until fully fixed. Fit high-visibility steel mesh rooflight covers and rigid perimeter barriers around all skylight apertures. Operatives must never step directly onto unfixed liners or skylight sheets.
Stage 7 — Composite Panel Laying & Leading Edge Progression: Lay Kingspan QuadCore KS1000RW 120mm Composite Roof Panels (XL Forte Goosewing Grey) progressively from the gable end against the prevailing wind. Operatives work from established non-fragile bays and purlin-spanning stagings, wearing EN 361 harnesses attached to a BS EN 795 mobile man-safe line when within 2.0m of an unprotected leading edge.
Stage 8 — Primary Fastening, Lap Sealing & Thermal Continuity: Fix panels to structural steel purlins using austenitic A2 stainless steel self-drilling Tek fasteners (minimum 3 threads projection past purlin flange) with 19mm EPDM washers. Apply continuous 6×4mm cross-linked butyl sealant tapes along all side and end laps.
Stage 9 — Perimeter Flashings, Gutters & Cold-Cut Trimming: Install ridge, eaves, verge, and gutter flashings from the perimeter scaffold platform or MEWP. Any panel trimming must use cold-cut electric nibblers or reciprocating shears (strictly no angle grinders) while wearing EN 388 Cut-Level 5 Kevlar gloves, EN 166 goggles, and FFP3 masks.
Stage 10 — Daily Housekeeping, Demobilisation & QA Handover: Clear all metal swarf, off-cuts, and packaging into skips daily to prevent wind-blown debris or cut-edge corrosion. Upon completion, conduct joint QA walkdown with David Sterling (Senior QS) and issue the 25-year system warranty pack.
